Allegedly deadly driver Alisha Fagan whimpered: ‘I don’t want to be here’ when her bail offer was declined over fatal accident

A driver who reportedly ran a red light and killed a beloved Melbourne grandfather wailed, saying, “I don’t want to be here,” when her bail application was rejected.

Alisha Jane Fagan appeared on Tuesday for a bail hearing at the Dame Phyllis Frost Center in the Melbourne Magistrates Court.

The 22-year-old was reportedly behind the wheel of a black Audi and ran a red light, killing grandfather Sedat Hassan, who was in another car at Sunshine West on June 9.

New details emerged in court over CCTV footage 13 minutes before the crash, in which police allege Ms. Fagan got into the driver’s seat of the Audi after a brief stop.

She faces eight charges, including dangerous driving resulting in death, violating bail, and possessing drugs and weapons.

Ms. Fagan sobbed, blew kisses, and made a heart shape for relatives with her hands when her bail offer was rejected.

“I don’t want to be here,” Ms. Fagan wailed when her bail app was declined.

“I want to be the person I wanted to be when I was younger,” she said.

Her father put his head in his hands when Magistrate John Hardy rejected her application, saying she posed an unacceptable risk to the community.

But he told the court that if a bed could be found in rehab and residential rehabilitation to support Ms. Fagan, he would reconsider granting her bail.

The “terrible incident” catapulted Ms. Fagan’s case to another level, Mr. Hardy said.

“I can’t stay here; I need my family,” she said between sobs.

The woman rocked back and forth throughout much of the hearing, covering her face when the court was told Mr. Hassans’ son was tuning in to the hearing.

The court was previously told that Ms. Fagan had been released on bail for unrelated charges six weeks before the crash.

She refused to tell investigators who else was in the Audi sedan after her arrest at the accident site and gave a false name, the court was told.

Ms. Fagan was also found with two Xanax tablets and a kitchen knife, according to police.

The case will return to court at a later date.
